Okay, I'm having the same dilemma with my ugly cultured marble bathroom countertops...so, I researched making my own modern concrete tops. I found this EXCELLENT, in-depth article of one man's complete process for his kitchen redo. His entire kitchen expense was about $500. Hope this helps!

Go to Lowes or Home Depot they should have plans available. Maybe a woodworkers supply store where you can get woodworking tools.
