I heard of a guy trying to cool down his house, but burned it down?

Question:(heard a bit about this on the radio) suposidly he pored gas on the roofing shingles thinking the evaporation would cool his house down but the shingles were hot enough to spark the gas. do you know what state this was in, or if someone can point to a refrence that would be awsome

I'm guessing he was smoking and set it off. It would have worked safely if he would have used water.
