How do I safely deal with lead paint?

First of all, did you recently painted your house and what kind of paint did you use. Try scraping off the paint and repaint your house if you think it has lead in it.
Get tested for lead poisoning! If you have kids, have them tested because it can damage their health.
It can be removed by a certified environmental company that will use proper methods. If the paint you have is chipping or peeling, you need to do this. Otherwise, it may be possible to paint over it, pushing the immediate problem back for a while.
I think that if the paint is not chipping, you can just paint over it. If you have to remove it, don't sand it because that will just send lead dust all over the place.
This is one of those times when a professional needs to be called. It's too dangerous to fool around with and if you just paint over it, you and your children are still at risk.
