How do I soundproof a wall without spending too much money?
Question:Just moved into a new rented house. Therefore I cannot tear up the walls or do anything drastic. I share a wall with the living room and do not want to hear the TV coming through that common wall. What can I do to muffle/reduce/eliminate that noise?

one of my brothers had this problem and resolved it by nailing up some foamy sort-of egg carton-y looking stuff. it's about an inch or two thick and is used for putting on top of your mattress. then he put up a couple blankets on top of that. he says it worked for him. also, use a fan in your room or anything else that would give you some white noise to counteract your neighbors noise. hope this helps!!
You can get a bunch of egg cartons to put between the drywall..That's a old trick that's been around since studios were invented.
one thing you could do is go to a used hotel furniture outlet store and buy full length drapes. I have seen them quite reasonable at thsoe type of stores. They will probably do the best job for the money. I just hope you can find one where you live. Your second option would be to build another wall against the other with insulation. Which sound easier and cheaper to you?
if you live in vegas come to garrett materials... we can sell you soundboard which is a ton cheaper then quiet roc. i guess you can get that anywhere, but it be nice to give us some love... there are other ways too.. you can double up your board with laminating screws and put plywood underneath the board .. these are all dampeners.. the best way is with the quietroc, but it is really expensive..
egg cartons, tons of them. duck tape them to your wall. I dont know why, but they work.
My brother has a band, and they did this to a garage.
OR...do what I did in my music studio and get some drop tiles for ceilings and put them on the wall. Did the trick for me.
