How can I learn to mat pictures ?

Question:

Most Photo 1 classes demo this in the first or second lab session. I learned mostly by reading the manual that came with the Logan Mat cutter. You can also ask if you can watch a technician do a cut at your local Michael's or framing store.

You can also try eHow (see link).

The important thing is to keep a sharp blade in at all times, otherwise the board starts to shred.

The one mysterious thing to me was this little silver button on the mat cutter (that extends a pin straight down when pressed). This button is to help anchor the entire cutter so that it does not shift when you press the blade into the board.

For mounting, I recommend mounting strips or corners instead of adhesive sprays.

I learned by joining a local photography group here on Yahoo. I would guess there are some photography groups in your area and they are a great resource for any question.
