What is a "fat quarter" ??

Question:Is it bigger or smaller then a Yard? Thanks for the serious honest answers!

Answers:
a quarter that isnt skinny. yes im pretty sure this is the correct answer!

a fat quarter is 1/4 of a yard, but isnt cut in a 'strip'

they take 1 yard of fabric and cut it into 4 equal 'squares' or quarters

when you get 1/4 yard of fabric from a store, it would be 9" x 44"... whereas a fat quarter would be 18"x22"
18" x 25" - primarily used in quilting when you need to account for th dimension lost in sewing a seam.
A fat quarter is a 1/4 yard of fabric measuring 18"X22". It is fatter than the 9"X45" that you would get buy just cutting your standard yard of fabric into quarters. It is used a lot in quilting.
