Would a plywood break?
Question:we are building a small backstop for street baseball so we dont need a catcher. if we used a plywood as the board. would it break with a t-ball(soft baseball) if we throw around 60-70mph. if it would, which kind of wood you would recommend us to use at an affordable price?
Answers:
if you used 3 quarter plywood with an outer frame of 2 x 3 and additional 2 x 3 at 16" centers glued to the plywood this would make the backstop very strong indeed
you could use thinner plywood but it could split over a period in time with constant usage
hope this helps
thanks

The plywood would get damaged. It would be better to build a frame (out of cheap 2x4's and/or 2x6's) with a strong fabric net to catch the balls.
yes plywood can break from damage or lots of age
Firsty's got a good idea. If you don't have net, then you might be able to use a canvas attached at the top. Attach a piece of wood at the bottom to add a bit of heft to it.
The canvas would absord the hit as the ball pushes it up and away. The ball then drops right behind the backstop.
