How do I patch a wall where a towel rack will be hung?

Question:regular wall patch seems too soft to hold the bracket, do I have to move the rack to a more solid area?

Answers:
You can try to use heavy weight joint compound. I normally do not recommend using spackling compound, and usually use medium weight for regular patching. But if you need to anchor something you will need heavy weight. This will hold it, but will crumble if much weight is put on it. You may want to consider blocking behind the drywall for added strength.
