Question:I am into doing it for myself as much as I can, would you help me fix my house up? What might be the first suggestion that you would give me if I wanted to make it feel warm and comfortable to you?

i do all my home repairs, I also remodel on the side of my regular maintenance job, My recommendation would be to go to your local supply store and pick up swatches and samples to bring home and see and compare

With regard to creating an inviting place for others, certainly the answer about Curb appeal is a place to begin. A Red front door is a sign of invitation, as well as fresh paint and a yard that looks well kept.
With regard to comfort, you really should consider your own first. It is after all YOUR home. For the purpose of listing it for sale, first impressions are lasting ones.
The interior can be warm/ muted/ minimal, without seeming blah or harsh. "Less is More" is accurate, especially when trying to showcase a house to sell.
While you occupy the house, create a climate that you most feel comfortable in, invited to, and a place you'd linger if you were anyone else. Obviously we all have personal preferences, so there won't likely be any wrong answers here.

You can decorate from mild to wild, static to animated to suit YOU and others in the home. It may not be a visitors choice in how they might decorate their own home, but if anyone is visiting you just for your house and its decorative touches, perhaps they have other agendas?
First suggestions I guess might be Clean, uncluttered, neat without being sterile looking, personal touches that mean the most to you, whether it's a shelf full of ceramic Elephants or a wall full of books on shelves.
At the end of the day, when we all leave, it's still your home, and you should feel the comfort of it. You are a large part of the personality of your home.

LIving room is the most important place, I think. But one thing is to keep it simple and don't over-decorate. You can have a nice house but you can ruin it by adding too much stuff.Colors are key. Also try to be clean.
REMOVE ALL THE UNNECESSARY THINGS THEN PAINT IF NEEDED
It is always nice to have a beatiful kitchen. A kitchen is also where you get the most value for your money when it comes to resale. You could give it a warm paint job, change the backsplash, paint or install new cabinets, new coutertops?
