HELP! i am making a boat for my physics class and the varnish is strange?
Question:i need to put coats of varnish on my small wood boat for my class but the spray come out as foamy white, i believe it is suppose to be liquid.
i followed the insturction and shook the can...i am using miniwax polycrylic spray. am i shaking too much? ty in advance

ahh... another novice learns the hard way about polycrapic...I mean polycrylic
First of all it isn't VARNISH. Second any clear coat that's agitated will also equate to millions of air bubbles. Why didn't you consider brush coats of marine varnish?
If you followed the instructions, and there is no disclaimer about shake time and it's effects. I suggest you stop, and re-think the process.

i better suggest you use polyurethane.
it is much thicker and more water resistant than top coats. just make sure you'll follow instructions more carefully.
do not use sanding sealer if you use polyurethane, instead there is polyurethane sealer made specially for that.
this is if your going to use polyurethane
Why are you using this on a boat, why don't you use a good marine varnish that you apply with a brush?
