How do i refinish the outside of a cast iron claw foot tub?
Question:i have a cast iron claw foot bathtub that need refinished on the out side inside not to bad just need sugestion on how to paint outside

CERTAINLY you can do it yourself. It's the outside. You're not re- inventing the original glazed material inside, and I've been on the planet long enough to know that manufacturers often didn't fire glaze a ceramic over the outside of old free standing tubs. Certainly that process may have been done on high end pieces, but rarely on utilitarian ones.
A good cleaning to remove any residue that might attack paint should be the first step, then a thorough rinse, then a primer suited to cast iron, and a paint suited the same,,, better sprayed than rolled or brushed.
The good news is that PAINT can always be removed or painted over, in case the tub becomes an heirloom piece. If you wanted to attempt a finish similar to the interior of the tub there are high gloss appliance sprays on the market that are very effective.

get some hammerite prep the surface with a light sand and its easy from there on.
I've got one too. I gave it a good wash and painted it with vinyl silk paint. has been fine for last two years. I painted it to match bathroom-pink on tub and silver on legs and feet. Looks a million dollars.
Don't do it yourself. That tub's too expensive to try it yourself and end up needing to sandblast it to start over.
Call a tub and tile refinisher. They'll come out and do it for you in your house and you'll be able to use it again in 2 days. They might be more expensive than a can of spray paint, but their finish lasts and lasts, is warrantied, and is so beautiful to look at. They can even paint the inside white and the outside another color to make it look original.
