How do I get rid of birds?
Question:There is a tree outside my two-year old son's room where birds like to hang out. While their sweet song may be lovely to some, the noise is waking him up before 6 am every day. When we just went away for the weekend (no birds), he woke up after 7. Any suggestions on how to discourage birds from staying in a particular tree? HELP!

Birds really are a lovely addition to the garden...But OK I suppose kids do find it annoying.
Try to attract them to another side of the garden, place food/hanging food pellets in another tree.
Failing that, gently through a few sticks/wave a few sticks and make noise when they sit there. Pls don't throw anything at them, aside from that being illegal, its also very cruel. Absolutley do not put any sticky pads down on the branches...this has been a known deterrant, but is EXTREMELY cruel because the birds can't flky away and will die a slow painful death stuck to the tree,
Simple way: Hang a dead bird from the tree.Other birds are scared sheetless to see their own kind dead.
If you don't have enough money to pay for the therapy that your kid's gonna need after that,then either lure them to some other place with food,or scare them away very often for about a week with a very loud noise.Like a firecracker or a loud bass.
You can get plastic owls and set them up near the tree, this should scare the birds off. A farm I worked on used them in the barn, setting them up on the beams to keep birds out so they wouldn't leave a mess of droppings in the cows feed and on the equipment the was kept in there. It seemed to work really well, just had to move the owls every few weeks, just a few feet or to a new position to keep the birds wary.
Well, my first few ideas were less than humane, but on a more considerate note. Perhaps if you place a bird feeder and some bird houses on the other side of your home, you can encourage them to nest their rather than outside of your sons window. Besides that, if you can't get them to go maybe you can try putting one of those white noise machines in his room, it will drown out the bird sounds without being loud and obnoxious. I live in an apartment and my neighbors are terribly loud, talking, bumping and blarring car alarms are the norm around here. But since I started using the white noise generator, I hardly notice the noises in the background. They are'nt too expensive and can be found at most department stores and electronics stores.

Orchard owners use several tricks to get rid of birds and rotate between them because the birds eventually get used to one type of deterent and return to the trees. The loud noises and fake owls mentioned earlier are two good methods. Placing a rubber snake or stringing some shiny silver ribbon in the tree will work also. I would start with whatever is the cheapest and work up from there. Also.. loud noises at 6am would probably upset more than just the bird (I'm thinking neighbors).

I dont have a squirrel problem anymore. I put a bunch of seeds under the tree, and let my cat outside to chase them away. I baited them. Then scared the crap out of them. so..
tie a cat or dog near where the birds are, and put some seeds down near the animal, and I guarantee, problem solved :)
Cheap canister air horns work immediatly and if done a few times a week will keep them away.
