Vinyl windows pros and cons?
Question:What are the pros and cons?
Can we put blinds on these windows? If not, what is the alternative?
Any idea how expensive (% wise) are those when compared to aluminium?
How about Wood Clad Vinyl Windows?
Thanks.
Answers:
Had wood for about 9 years. Put in vinyl about a year ago. Pros - upkeep is great, no painting, each cleaning. I also immediately put up blinds without any problems
Cons - I can't think of one. I was very unhappy with the wood ones.
Expense was about the same but we did the replacement ourrselves.
Pros: Easy to clean, inexpensive as compared to the alternatives, come in a variety of colors.
Cons: Unless your really want wood that you can stain, I really can't think of any cons.
We have had vinyl windows in our last two houses, wood prior to that. The upkeep for the vinyl is practically zero. I only wash them down periodically. Unlike wood, they don't require paint maintenance. You can put anything on vinyl windows that you would for wood..blinds, draperies, shutters, anything. I can't imagine going back to wood. WIsh I could give you some idea on cost but the windows have always been part of the house package price. We have Andersons now, but had Pella before. Both high quality.
Why wouldn't you be able to put blinds on them?? They are the same as any other window, just vinyl around the outsside. They are worth the money. Very efficient, nice and sturdy.
Pros they are operate well are, fairly inexpensive, low maintenance. They also are easy to have the glass replaced if broken or a seal fails. Another good thing is unlike aluminum the vinyl doesn't allow the transfer of cold from the outside and you won't get condensation. Cons they aren't as nice as wood. But wood has to be up kept. Vinyl windows can't be dark because they would distort.
all the pros have been mentioned but one con I have not seen is that if these are replacement you will lose some actual glass area. the same for any replacement. the wood vinyl or alum. cladded windows are the best. they have a better look from the outside but they are more expensive and need painting or staining.
