How can i build a shelf?

Question:I am looking to build a shelf that will wrap around 3/4 of a room. I would like it along the top. I want to be able to put fake greenery and decorations on it. I would like it almost up to the top of the wall. Any easy ways to do it and make it sturdy? Please remember when replying, i am not very handy. Thank You!

I did this in our home. I am a carpenter though. You can go to Home Depot, they have a huge line of shelving. You can get pre-made shelves, the service guys there are former carpenters and can help with most phases of the job, bring your measurements with you.
I used pre-made hangers made out of wood, very fancy and just bought the right hard wood boards that I wanted, pre-cut, again to save the trouble of doing it myself.

One problem you might have, make sure your screws holding the brackets or either fancy wood or whatever it is, are secured in the wooden studs behind the wallboard, not just the wallboard or else the weight will pull the shelves down.

Make sure you follow the weight problem and not put anything to heavy of the shelves, especially over, say a pc where you'll be sitting, or else you may have a surprise someday, it happen to us.

My wife didn't follow the rules and put the shelves full of filled jars and heavy stuff, I told her and told her but, would she listen? no. One day the shelves she put up came down.

Some of the jars she filled with colored liquid weighted ten pounds, take fifteen of these jars, and other stuff, so,, heed my warning. Put the brackets in studs.

just buy normal L brackets you screw them into the wall and into the bottom of the shelf (buy shelving boards) and you are finished.
1. just make sure that they are level, mark your wall at intervals
2. make sure that you hit a couple of studs so that it will hold weight
Expenses should be less than $30
1. determine how long the shelves will be then get the appropriate shelving material that you wish to use (pvc, wood, steel)
2. get some shelf guide (available in DIY shops or any hardware stores) it will serve as the support as you mount the shelf onto the wall
3. the bigger shelf guide or holder you can use, the better hold it will give provided you use a stronger material too, equally space the guides then mount it on the shelf board, after doing so you can already start mounting (best by screwing the board+guide/holder to the wall)
4. don't forget to measure first the entire wall and marking the areas where you want to put the shelving units, try to get some help also once you start mounting the shelves to the wall, it requires lifting and precision

goodluck! hope this helps
