Decorative brickwork - any links, tips or pictures?
Question:I am making a garden wall from reclamed bricks. They all came from different places, are differently sized and coloured, but there are some good quantities of the same brick. I want the wall look good, not a quilt or patchwork-like, so I think the idea of decorative brick work is the best here.
If you have any pictures, diagrams, links - please post them, or email me the pictures!
Thanks a lot!

Not knowing much about the bricks you have nor the area you plan to use them, I only have a few general suggestions. First, randomly mixing the different color bricks would look best... don't strive for a pattern. If you are planning to have multiple courses (levels) of bricks, every once in a while turn one of the bricks a different direction than the others (e.g. instead of the long face showing, the short face shows)... but don't do it on the very top course. If it suits your landscaping and you have the extra time, consider 'de-facing' some bricks (i.e. removing the existing smooth finish with a hammer & chisel) to give a more "unfinished" look.
You may run into problems if the bed depth (shortest dimension) of the brick is different from one ot another because your courses will not line up right. This may force you to adjust the thickness of the joints so that you can set one course of brick on top of the next. If you can, segregate your bricks by SIZE, and use the colors within those sizes at random. That way you have a wall that has uniform spacing between courses but does not look like it was made in bands or in patches. What you might do is if you have lots of one type of brick, use that as your main component. Do several courses of that brick at once, and then intersperse some random color stuff to provide breaks to the monotony.
Typically bricks are 3 5/8 x 7 5/8 x 2 1/4. If this is the case, use 3/8 joints between bricks. This will give you a nominal size of 4 x 8 x 2 5/8. That's what most houses are built with.
Good luck.
You could do a diagonal pattern start with a certain brick start left or right and have it a stair way or strips of different bricks
