Distibuting heat?
Question:hiya i live in a very old stone cottage which gets little sun .The attic room is always to hot in summer but the rest of the house remains freezin how cud i harness the heat from the attic and share it round the rest of the house cheaply
Answers:
the people above are right and its called heat recovery ventilation , when the pros fit it , the air from the hotter rooms usually attic area and the like is blown through a filter unit and then recirculated to wherever you need it through ducts
I have very limited information but you could do a few things. Ceiling fans properly placed will help keep the air mixed. The other thing you may be able to do is to install a return air grill in the attic room to "suck" the warm air out of that room, into your furnace and then back into the rest of the house.
Email me more information if you want.
Must be terrible in winter, but you asked about summer...
Why don't you get a fan and a plastic pipe or tube?
Something like a 100-125mm diameter tube or pipe, to pump warm air from the attic down to the ground floor. Direct air-heating.
This can be bought at any DIY store.
The fan would be in the attic.
For a fan you can use a normal table fan (in which case you have to make an adapter to the tube). You can also get specialised fans that are exactly the right size to attach to standard tubes.
You could even take a smaller and a larger tube inside one another, to keep the warmth in untill it reaches the ground floor.
Use a small fan and some duct work, if necessary, to push the warm air downstairs.
blow the heat downwards
