I'm installing my own central air. Can i Solder the line set or do I have to Braze it?

Question:I have a 10 sear unit. And I can solder it my self. I contacted a local contractor Braze the connections and vacume out the unit and was told they Solder them. The store i bought the unit from told they had to be brazed.

Answers:
Your outside connections should be brazed because you have more vibration at the compressor unit. You can probably get away with the inside connections being silver soldered, but if you have to hire a contractor to do the outside, get the inside done also to preclude any squabbles if leaks develop in the future.

Braze it! Solder will not hold the pressure.
Braze it, incidentally if you don't know this you don't belong installing it.
Some contractors use 95/5 Stay Britte solder. I however wouldn't advise it. The lines really should be brazed using a silver alloy brazing rod.
