I get them dipped costs about £15 a door in yorkshire they will pick them up and drop them off for that

Buy a hot air gun - About £15 from a DIY store - quicker that Paint Stripper and no horrible chemicals or smells - if they are gloss painted - the paint will come off quite quickly -
There are three ways to strip paint of a door:-
1) Use sand paper, this takes a long time and can take some of the sharp edges of the detail work of the door.
2) Chemical paint stripper, this is the fastest way to get old paint of a door. It is very good around the detailing of the door. However it is very corrosive and if it comes into contact with you skin will burn.
3) Hot air blow gun, these are used to apply heat to the paint to soften it up allowing the paint to be scraped of the door. There is the danger of burning the wood or yourself when doing this.
yes i agree with i got wo, get them dipped , will save you a lot of work? otherwise a product called nitromorse will do the job but you will need to wear protective clothes ,gloves, and goggles..and still its tough going?
I have had great success with using a product called Citrus strip, it orange in color and smells like oranges. The best part is you are able to use it indoors and it does not have an volatile compounds in it. It's a jelly like product it goes on thick, takes about 30 minutes of setting time and you scrape off the old paint gently with a plastic scraper or wooden spoon, so as to not scratch the original surface. More stripper may be needed if the door has a lot of layers of old paint. I refinish cabinets and love this product because it can be used indoors all year round. Other products have a toluene (volatile) base and require a respirator and ventilation. If the door has a lot of nooks and crannies then you will need a wash product to get the remaining citrus stripper out of those places. I use no-odor paint thinner to wash down the doors after stripping and then let them sit at least 24 hours to dry before re-staining or painting. With any stripper follow the label instructions and wear gloves to protect your skin.
theres stuff called nitromors its a jelly you paint on and let soak for a while then scrape off. be careful it is very very dangerous. gloves and eye protection must be worn. hot air paint stripper very handy. as for a dip in a caustic soda bath very good but only done by professionals in a professional setting.
Hi Lisa N,

Go to paint store & ask for Marine strip (used for strippping off many coats of paint or stain). take door off hinges, you paint the stripper on let it sit according to directions, use ventilation (outdoor preferably or gagrage) then use a putty knife to take off old stain or paint, then sand & stain door, sand & use polyurethen let dry over night & re-hand doors. I used Marine stripper that had been painted 6 different colors on a old oak coffee table. Good luck & have a good night. :0)
there are super easy products for paint stripping that are out in the stores now (like hardware stores or Home Depot). It's so strong that you need gloves, a mask, need to do it outdoors, need paper underneath what you're working on, just paint it on the wood then let it set for a while then wipe it off. It takes only one application and then you remove it with rags (lots of rags). Don't kill your grass. Don't wash it into the water system. Then you throw all the stuff away after use. The problem is is that it's super flammable. Be very careful and do it on a cool day but one where there's not a lot of smog, so you can breathe well when you've finished the job. Read the directions.
