How do I fix a toilet that does not have a float?
Question:The toilet seems to have this metal piece at the bottom. When I press it the toilet stops running. I don't know what would trigger this or what usually causes the metal piece to be depressed in order to stop the toilet from running.
Answers:
You have a pressure type filler. It works by water pressure on it.

It sounds like it is defective, and needs replacing. You can use just about any one they sell at the local hardware store. Just make sure that all surfaces are clean when putting the new one in.

YOU HAVENT STATED THE PROBLEM WITH THE TOILET HAT NEEDS FIXED?
there are inexpensive complete toilet tank rebuild kits at hardware stores. when one parts is deteriorated the others are well worn & about to fail too.
Hush flow valve is a floatless system that I use.
If you tear it apart for a rebuild dont forget to buy a braided supply hose & donut shaped gasket inbetween the tank & toilet bowl.
shut off the water & shop vac out the water to save time
good luck
3 main parts to a toilet, douglas valve, handle, ballcock. Just rebuild your entire toilet.
