Convection oven door gap?
Question:We have a new Jenn-air convection range in our remodel kitchen which has a gap in the oven door at the top. When it's operating you can place your hand nearby and feel a warm-air breeze coming out. From the side you can see the angle of the door against the main oven which is not vertical, perhaps a few degrees off of parallel to the stove.
I'm inclined to think I need to have a service person visit to look at and/or fix it, but perhaps this is normal for convection ovens? Thanks for your advice
Answers:
this is not normal, even in convection this oven should not have any gaps or ways for heat to escape. You will need to contact an authorized servicer and have the hinge receivers replaced. I like to replace the hinges as well when I run into this problem. It is common on these new maytag/jennair built in ovens. Be sure to give them your model number and serial number when you call for service so hopefully they will be ready with the parts. It is a minor problem.
If it's new by all means get the repair man in to correct it.
But if you want to try some thing first you can lift up on the door a little when it is almost closed & then see if it settles down better in its track. You may have to open it some more before it will move.
The doors are usually just set loosely in their slots.
The doors are designed to have an airflow between the glass panels. So that does feel like an breeze, but it keeps the outside cool to the touch.
If the door doesn't close properly it will be HOT air coming out. You will also find that the breeze continues for a while after turning off the oven.
enjoy dinner.
