How do you measure angle of cut to make a hexigon out of landscape timber?

Question:Trying to make a wishing well planter.

Answers:
cut at a 30 o/o angle

If it isn't going to be any bigger than the length of 1 timber for each side, you can lay out the timbers in the shape you want with every other one down & then every other one on top then adjust to line the shape up.

Put some little stakes in the ground to hold the timbers in place.

Using an adjustable square you can find out what the angle is that you want.

Or you can draw a line where the timbers over lap.
As long as you have an even number of sides this can work.

This mark should be where you cut the lower timbers.
Cut on both ends on these marks.

Lay them back in place & then lay the other timbers back in place. it should be plain what you want to cut off of these.

A straight line along the out side edge of the other timbers.

You could practice with some small boards first.
OK, a circle is 360 Degrees of angle. You divide that by the number of sides, 6(Hexagon has 6 sides) That would equal 60Degrees. A Straight Cut is 90 Degrees so you deduct our angle(60 Degree) from the 90 and you get a 30 Degree Cut This is because you want to keep the 60 Degree angle so you cut 30 Degree!

Set your angle at 30 Degrees.
The easiest way would be with a 10" electric miter saw or Radial arm saw. It can be done with a mitre gage on a table saw.

It's kind of hard to get it right with a circular saw or hand saw, but I guess you could use a bevel finder and protractor. Or if you can find good directions on how to use a framing square to mark angles. I'm not sure what pitch is a 30 degree angle.

I think this is what you are asking. If you are asking how to determine the angle, then you would devide 360 degrees by the number of sides, then devide that number by 2.
