How do I fix nail pops in the drywall?
Question:
Answers:
The reason you get nail pops is because A. the nail pulled out of an expanding hole or B. the drywall itself has bowed with moisture and shrunk again. Place a drywall screw above or below the popped nail, cover with either drywall compound or spackle, putt the old nail and fill the hole with the same compound or spackle, then touch up the paint or repaint the wall. It would probably be a good idea to shoot screws up and down the stud a 16-18 inch intervals to reattach/retighten the drywall.
Puzzled has the right answer
bang em in spackle prime and paint primary is very important and dont forget to sand lightly
Puzzled is right. The nail is backing out, and if you just smack it and hit it w/ spackle it will eventually back out again.
I do not necessarily agree with the fact that the DRYWALL is compromised. More often than not it is glued AND nailed. Glued and screwed is better, but most builders won't spend the extra money for screws. It is the stud that causes the nail to back out. Wood absorbs and loses moisture depending on the season, and as it does it swells and shrinks. This motion causes the nail to back out.
Yeah, Puzzled is right. Replace the nail with a screw and fill in with mud and sand. A settling house will set nails lose too.
