This is what you are looking for, the more economical are near the bottom, but contain no curtain ring.

Try a no plumbing shower wand or just go to your local plumbing supplier or DIY center and pick one up it will give you an excuse to get out among some people as well. Happy plumbing.
What you are looking for is a tub spout with built in shower diverter, as pictured here:

Unscrew the old spout from the tub (turn it counter-clockwise, and it may be tough to get it started). Screw in the spout with diverter. Now attach one of those shower heads that's on a flexible hose -looks like a wall telephone. You want the kind with a mounting rail included so you have a place to hang up the shower head, and also use it in a stationary position like a regular shower head.

What's the surface to which you will attach the shower head equipment? You'll probably need toggle bolts to affix it to the wall so it stays put, if the wall is just platerboard. But, if there is a tile wall, then screws and anchors will work. Discuss it with the people at the store so they can direct you.

I should think Lowe's or Home Depot would have what you want, and the upgrade should be pretty inexpensive.

Hope that helps. Enjoy your shower!
