How do I connect the power to a wall mounted tv?

Question:I want to mount my tv on the wall and I know how to run cables at the back but my question is how do I get the tv powered without coming out of the wall in order to go into the standard socket? Do I have to splice the cable/another socket into the mains behind the wall?

Answers:
From your question I deduce that you have hollow stud walls. Is the socket you need to ger power from under your tv? If so, then cut a hole for your socket, by the tv. Put power off, and if you are lucky, you will be able to open up/remove the lower socket, then drop a fishing line through to pull your new wire up.

just use lead supplied
Use heavy duty extension cords.
with a wire
put another wall socket in. Its not that hard. Make sure you get help and turn the power off.
you can buy plastic strips that hide the wires, rather than chip away at your wall.you can decorate over the strips to hide them away,so nobody would know.if you put the wires into the wall and your tv broke down you would have to chip away at the wall again.no point really.invest in the strips they really do the business.
we installed another wall socket directly behind the tv - actaully 2 - one for power, and another for cable.
if your lead reaches the socket on an inside wall cavity
then connect the wires direct to the socket, turn power off isolate the whole buildings electricity first
