How to install an inground pool?

Question:I have my own excavating business but have never put a pool in, I want to put one in for myself, how do I form the walls and do the plumbing (I can do plumbing I just don't know where to put the jets and filters.)

Answers:
OK... this is going to sound a lot more complicated than it is. When you build a hollow structure from concrete, you have to do it in layers. The first thing you will want to do is dig a hole around 3 or 4 feet wider and 2 feet deeper than you want your pool to be. the next thing you need to do is pack the ground. Fill the bottom of the hole with about 6 to 8 inches of pea gravel, the gravel gives the concrete something to hold on to and provides a tight base structure. Next, you need to set the walls, you can use regular wall panels to pour it, but if you want it rounded you can get fiberglass board and bend it into shape and pound rebar to hold the form. Make sure to cut holes for the pipe for the jets around 18 to 24 inches below the top of the water. When the walls are set and dry, you will start pouring the floor in layers... do it just like steps... in the end, you will fill the gaps by hand and smooth it until its even. It took me a really long time to do my pool, somewhere around 2 weeks with my buddy's help. My pool turned out perfect, but it is really easy to have a leak, and if it is bad enough, it will just erode your yard into a huge muddy sinkhole. Your best bet is to have a professional teach you or atleast give you step by step instructions, otherwise you could end up wasting several thousand dollars in lost supplies. The paint/sealer you have to use is about $100 per gallon, so you want to make sure you get it right. Good Luck

There are many different types of inground pools - concrete (gunite), steel, polymer (plastic), fiberglass and wooden, to name a few.

Each one will have a different installation type. I'm guessing that you may be interested in installing a pool for yourself and, if it goes well and seems to be easy, adding pool building to your existing excavating business. Pool building can be a very lucrative business and I encourage you to give us a call at DIY Pools. We would love to discuss with you exactly how to install inground pools (we specialize in polymer pools, but also offer steel) and give you some help if you're interested in setting up a side business of installing pools.
