What is Involved in Removing Old Electric Baseboard Heating?
Question:Before we purchased our house, it was converted from electric baseboard to a natural gas furnace. At the time, the original electric baseboards were simply disconnected at the fuse box. We want to now remove the baseboard heating elements from the wall completely (they are a bit of an eye sore!). Is it ok that once the elements are removed, we simply leave the wires in the wall? A friend gave me a hint that this may not be the proper way to do it, because someone could potentially reconnect the wires at the fuse box! At the fuse box, the fuse holders have been removed, the wires remain in place.

Turn off the power to them not just the thermostat, take out the bolts/screws that hold them to the walls , disconnect the wires cap the ones that come out of the wall with wire nuts then use electrical tape on the wire nuts to make sure they don't come off. Then tuck the wires back into the walls. Use a separate wire nut for each wire.
If they are disconnected at the fuse box, then just remove them. I would cap of the wires with wire nuts and tape just to be safe.
