How do I stop my water pipes banging?

Question:My water pipes are driving me mad. They have air in them and keep banging. Can anyone please tell me how to get the air out - thanks.

Answers:
turn the water off at the meter. open all faucets slightly. turn water on at meter. allow water to come through all pipes before turning off faucets. problem resolved. :)

if its your heating pipes,, make sure you have water in the system and all rads are vented, if its on your hot and cold pipes,, make sure pipes are clipped properly even under the floors. good luck
throw a bucket of water over them, the dirty buggers
what you are hearing is probably 'water hammer' and is an effect you get when a long straight line suddenly takes a 90 degree turn
there nothing you can do about it unless you reroute a lot of expensive piping
bleed your rads.
switch off the heat and bleed the air out of your radiators, each one in turn.

On the top right of each radiator there is a small nut unscrew this nut and you will hear the air escaping once water is released re-tighten the nut and move on the next radiator repeat again the next day.

good luck
Clip them to the wall
If its your radiators - use a radiator key to release the nut to let out the air until water comes. Top up your heating system water.

If the noise is in your water supply pipes fix a hose between the two taps in your sink and turn both taps on. The direct flow from the cold water supply should remove air locks in the hot.
