What I do is take two boards longer than the width of the box by about 4" on both sides. install one accross the butt of the hinge with screws and then open the door a little and slip the other board also across the short way with screws into the frame. Be sure you will still be able to open the drop door fully once in the air. Get you screws started so that they will go into the framing when up andin the properily framed hole. takes two strong people. Hold the unit in place and screw the added on boards into the framing on all edges of your extra long boards. Then open the door up fully and use a seperate step ladder to shim at atleast four points from door frame to framing opening. Check with manufacturer suggestions for porper placment of these screws. Once all four corners are shimed and screwed through the stair frame remove the added on cleets and cut your shims back. Now you wre ready for trim. To cut the length of ladder that drops, lowere the last section that opens fully and then measure straight in line with the degree of the stairs to guestimate the length needed for the last pivoting ladder. make a mark about a 1/2 to 1" longer and cut a gueatimate angle that the floor will be. make your cut and see how you did. Then you will be in the ball park to make a more accurate angle and length cut to hit the exact pivot to straight ladder when it hits the floor. Better to be too long and have the opportunity to retrim than be too short and stress the frame of the ladder with short ladder cuts.
