Electric Fence Installation: Can I include the fence as part of the ground system ?

Question:Installation is on an existing 5 acre perimeter fence made of 48" graduated screen attached to standard T-Posts. The plan is to use the normal grounding rods ground system but then attach the fence itself to the ground system. I would then run a separate hot wire which would be insulated from the fence itself via T-Post insulators.
The ground is very dry, rocky red dirt with lots of clay which may require additional ground rods along the fence. Any replies are greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Here is a great web site about electric fences from Tractor Supply:

They recommend 3 ground rods near the charger for best results. If you are using screen attached to T-Posts, the screen is really grounded all along it's length. You may experience shorting problems because of the close proximity of the hot wire and the ground.

use additional rods. do not attach the fence to the system. wait till it has rained, then the rods should easily go into even the rocky, clay, red dirt.
