What can i use as a substitute for cheesecloth?

Question:putting rubbing compound on metal and it says to use cheesecloth to buff it out. can i use something else?

Answers:
You can use an old washcloth. The point in using cheesecloth is the slightly rough texture and that same texture can be found on an old piece of terrycloth. Hope that helps and good luck with your project.

I agree in part with answer one.

I'd like to add my thoughts.

For one thing the cheese cloth is a loose enough weave to hold the rubbing compound without adding abrasiveness.

Once the compound has dried/ looks chalky, then a clean terry towel will work, much as it does with car wax. Certainly in the buffing you should begin gently.

Now days they have the microfiber cloths.

They work fine and you don't need to use cheesecloth anymore.
Buy some nylon netting at Wal Mart or Tulle (like for wedding veils) the net is about 44c a yard and it is 72 inches wide.
