I need to go out to burgle. How do I get these bolt-cutters to work properly please? Pics included?
Question:I got some bolt cutters a few weeks back from a tool merchant's sale. Reduced from £55 to £20.
Looked like a handy tool to have for emergencies, and so I put them in garage. Tonight I had a problem with a house door where the lock mechanism jammed (washer broke)... and as last resort I wanted to use the bolt-cutters to take off the handle. Had to use sledehammer instead.

Problem is I don't know how to use the bolt cutters. They don't open when I widen the levering arms. I thought it was a safety plate but now I'm not so sure cause I've just done a quick search of bolt cutter images and most of them have this plate mechanism.

Bolt cutters won't cut that type of lock anyway. They are good for cutting pad locks cable lock, not door lock. You need to learn what tools are best for what you are doing, before you get arrested....Plus the plate that you are trying to take off is supposed to be there, if you take it off the jaws will fall apart. That's why they sold it to you for a cheap price..Cause it doesn't work...And No, the jaws don't open that wide to put over a door knob, if that's what you were trying to do..
Publicly posting that you are going to burgle isnt a good thing, I see that you say in the end you arent really going to, but it isnt saomething to joke about.
You can borrow mine mate, Ive finished with them, but please dont wipe your finger prints of, you might as well take the blame for the two robberys. Good hunting,?
From your pics, it looks like whack with a hammer should do it.
Have you checked if the manufacturer has a web site?
Spray them good with WD-40 or a silicone lubricant and work them. The plate is to hold them together. Grease em, put it back, and firmly tighten.
I prefer a sawsall or a dremel for cutting bolts. Those heavy things are only good for scaring little children.
Go to the nearest police officer and ask for help, they are the experts!
First go to school and learn the a b c and that sort of stuff then read the instructions. Thats the piece of paper that tells you what to do. Then get someone to give you a practical demonstration. Then go ugg arrr me going to get some sweets tonight he he. Then off you go. BUT be sure to back in before bed time.
That's why they were reduced. You were the one burgled.
If this is a genuine question then just call the locksmiths! -> they are cheep and some insurence compaines (more than for example) will often pay for this and you will need the locks changing anway!
