What is the best way to paint a gold chandelier black?

Question:I'm looking for a cheap alternative other than buying a new fixture. The chandelier is a typical gold dining room chandelier. Any suggestion on how I would go about painting it black?

Also where can you purchase those little lamp shades to put on the bulbs?

Thanks!

Answers:
You can spray paint it black. Check into the Rolling Stones version of "Paint It Black".

spray paint.''.tlc ''does it all the time
Hello; Krylon spray paint or rustoleum spray, also if you want a flat finish they sell a flat black for stoves, it will work for your needs. Shades just try home depo and Lowe's. Source 30 years painting and more spray paint that i care to remember. Hope this is helpful.
I spray painted mine. Tape off anything that you don't want painted or over sprayed. Mine had these white plastic rims just below the insert for the bulb that I could not remove, so I taped them off. I used Rustoleum Wrought Iron Texture paint to make it "look like" wrought iron but I was painting over the builder basic shiny brass fixture. So, I primed it first with the Rustoleum metal primer so that the paint would adhere better and not drip or run on the slick surface. If you have a chain that accompanies it, remove it and paint it separately because the cord inside it will not take the paint well and will look tacky. (Most of the cords are plastic coated to which the paint won't stick. If you have that type of cord and want to paint it black, you have to use the Kylon Paint for Plastic on it.)

Another hint, get one of those trigger sprayers at the home improvement center that fits over the spray button on the can. Instead of using the button to apply, the trigger really helps give smooth, even application maintaining the proper distance so that you avoid runs and drips which make the appearance of the finished product look amateur. And, don't try to cover the entire thing in one go. Spray it from one direction, let it dry. Turn it to another, spray again and let it dry. I rest mine on coffee cans to elevate it so that I can see where I missed. But you really have to keep turning the chandelier to make certain you have even coverage and haven't missed a spot.
Many light coats is better than one heavy coat.
The little lamp shades can be found inexpensively at a number of places. I've found a good selection at Big Lots, Ross, Marshalls, Burlington Coat Factory, TJ Maxx, Lowes and even Target.
Use a fine grit sandpaper to get the sheen off till it looks dull wipe it off with a dry rag then spray paint.Lamp shades look at a home store or fabric store
First sand the fixture with fine sand paper 250 grit or higher. Select a spray paint to your liking, flat paints are easier to use the gloss. Place in a well ventilated area with protective covering on anything you dont want painted, then spray away and allow to dry. If you desire a glossy finish, follow with a clear coat as any runs will be less obvious using a clear glossy finish
