Dryer won't start?
Question:This is my second load today in the dryer. When I put the clothes in, turned the dial, press the button, the button made the dryer buzzing sound, but the dryer did not start.
The belt is not broken.
There is power to the machine. Start button still makes sound.
It is an older electric whirlpool dryer.
Could it be the motor?

I have used them many times to diagnose problems with our appliances. It's a good website to have bookmarked.
We had problems with our Dryer as well, the website helped us diagnose the problem and fix it.
good luck!
its the motor
Could be the door switch. If you can figure out how to take the top off the dryer to gain access to the door switch, you could test the switch by making contact between the two wires that connect to it, then trying the dryer while the wires are in contact with each other. CAUTION: Unplug the dryer before touching the switch wires.
If the buzz is more of a hum, the drive motor is probably seized. They're pretty easy to replace if you're mechanically inclined and have some basic hand tools.
However if it's an older model, you may want to just replace it and save the aggrivation.
Hope this helped, good luck!!
test need to be done to determine which part is faulty.
It could be:
The Motor
The door switch
The On switch ( could be corroded causing resistance)
The Timer control ( bad contacts)
It needs testing first and foremost, then you'll know what is wrong and how much it will cost to repair. If its old though, it will probably be better to buy a new one.
look up the brand on line. there is usually a checklist to look at. All else fails, call the repair guy. Mine had 4 things wrong and it only cost about 100 to 150 to fix
Before you try ANY of the suggestions others have offered and I agree with. Go to your circuit breaker panel or fuse box and reset the breaker or check the fuses and see if one is blown. It is possible and I have seen a breaker that only one side of it tripped but did not trip the other side. If this has happened or if you have a single blown fuse on a 220 volt circuit the control circuit side of the panel could still be allowing voltage to go to the dryer and it will do as you have described. If you reset it or replace a fuse and it trips or blows again call an electrician and have him/her check things out DO NOT reset or replace the fuse or breaker again you could cause a fire. Hope you find the problem is simple, Roy.
most dryers have dual voltage, 220volts for motor and 110 volts for controls, if one of the breakers feeding your washer trips or broken contact then the motor won't run, try to inspect first your distribution panel, if it's ok then better call a licenced serviceman if it's still worth it.
