I have just had the same thought so I will watch with interest.
Once it is clean you can wrap it in cling film. and replace that from time to time.
You get a star from me so we will see what else is recommended.
Beleive it or not, you can take your key board and put it in a dishwasher to have it washed, but dont let it dry in there take it out and let it dry in the sun or some where warm and make sure that you put it on a tilt so any water left over will drain out, and as soon as it is dry then you can hook it back up good as new. or you can get an air can and spray it with air to clean out under the keys, but for the most part, wipeing it with a good cleaner while it is disconnected is a good way also. just make sure it is dry before hooking it back up.
use something that blows air. They actually make air in a can to use for that specific purpose.
I use Fantastic or Simple Green on mine. Naturally you have to have the PC shut down when you do it. Spray it on, let it sit for a few seconds then wipe off with a paper towel. It gets between the keys real well and no need for a QTip. I wash mine every couple of weeks and have had no problems with this method.
The best cleaner out there is the foaming bathroom cleaner...Even the cheap brand...
It does wonders for plastics as well as nicotine stains.
