This site^^ has a bathtub repainting kit for around $60.00
They show before and after photos.
Give the site a try, maybe it will help a little.
paint away, whatever you want to use hahaha
You can have it professionally recoated for $200-$300, but you can't do it yourself. The recoating has a lifespan of 5-10 years
Probably, I think the old ones are porceline over steel, the new ones are fiberglass ( plastic)...if you ask the guy at the huge hardware store he's know!
You can reglaze your bathtub. The chemicals are pretty harsh, though, so you might consider having someone do it for you.
The bes thing is to look into getting it done, but they do sell a paint for them now that you can do. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and ask.
I know in my area you can pick up the coating spray right at home depot. Though I would check into it professionally because it would be very aggravating if you did all that work and then weren't happy with it.
it depends on the type of tub that you have if it is porcelin then you can buy porcelin paint and paint it again. if it is made of somen else then you would have to find the type of paint for that particular tub.
If you have a metal bathtub, you can. A porcelain tub will not hold pain long.
I don't think that you can successfully paint a bathtub. I would think the paint would chip and buckle and eventually look worse than it did before.
At one time, I had a bathtub professionally reglazed. It didn't work out too well, because cleaning it was such a problem. You had use Soft Scrub and even then, it scratched. But it was an improvement over the old, rusty tub, even though it wasn't ideal.
But now, I hear they have a new process where they reline the tub. They just lay a new surface over the old tub. If anyone has any experience with this process, I'd like to hear about it.
Jen,
They do make a paint product that will cover porcelain. Tough to use - very difficult to have the paint adhere - difficult to achieve success. They also have a paint for fiberglass tubs - same thing. The problem with using these paints is the inability to TOTALLY CLEAN the residue off the surface. I would get a pro - pay him his money and enjoy your 'new' tub!
I guess you could use gloss epoxy, it's the same finsh as a fridge or washing machine, but there are better ways to bring the shine back, homemade brightening solutions. If you must have it refinished, call a pro!
Short answer Yes; you can, but is is not particularly easy to do. Go down to a local paint shop; preferably one thats been around for awhile because they should know exactly what to give you. Some companies have kits made specifically for it, others will give you a special kind of 2 part epoxy that will work for some types of tubs. The benefit to these are they can be tinted to pretty much any color you want. They should tell you to sand the surface until there is no shine left on it; and then clean it really well; the last step is to apply the paint which will need to cure for several days to a few weeks depending on the product. be sure to have lots of ventilation; because the paint has a fairly potent odor that isnt especially good for you.
You can not paint it.
If it's fiberglass you can gelcoat it.
If it's an old metal tub with porcelain over it you can coat it with an acrylic from the hardware store for about 15 bucks. It's easy to do but needs 3 or 4 days to fully cure.
The home centers in my area carry a two-part epoxy for "refinishing" bathtubs, sinks, etc. and the kit costs between $20 and $40. There is a lot of surface prep involved in using these products. One thing to consider, is it your only bathtub? This epoxy usually requires a long time to cure before you can use the bathtub. You may be without a bathtub for about a week.
