Why is a Cross-head Screwdriver called a 'Philips Screwdriver'?

Question:

Answers:
In the early 20th century Henry F. Phillips from Portland, Oregon invented the Phillips-head screw and screwdriver. It was designed as an improvement over the then standard slot screw, it enabled a higher torque to be applied to the screw without stripping the head.

Its because Henry F. Phillips (1890 – 1958) was a U.S. businessman from Portland, Oregon, and inventor of the Phillips-head screw and screwdriver. So, it is named after the creator!

There you go... Hope it helped! John
dunno maybee phillip invented it?
the phillips head screwdriver was invented by henry f phillips
cause its phillips now give it back to him
The Phillips screw drive has slightly rounded corners in the tool recess, and was designed so the driver will slip out, or cam out, under high torque to prevent over-tightening. The Phillips Screw Company was founded in Oregon in 1933 by Henry F. Phillips, who bought the design from J. P. Thompson. Phillips was unable to manufacture the design, so he passed the patent to the American Screw Company, who was the first to manufacture it.
Phillips invented it.
good question i've asked my dad this for years so i'll be watching this question & i used to say what screwdriver d'ya want "spade" he'd say, still get confused to this day & am now 33 lol
In the early 1930s, the Phillips head screw was invented by Henry Phillips. Automobile manufacturers were using car assembly lines and they needed screws that could take greater torque and provide tighter fastenings. The Phillips head screw was compatible with the automated screwdrivers used in assembly line. (Ironically, there is a Philips Screw Company that never made Phillips screws or drivers!). Henry Phillips died in 1958 at the age of sixty-eight.
The answer is very simple and obvious.
It was invented several years ago by someone named PHILLIPS!!
The other type is called a `flat head`
because philips manaufactured it and produced it
Some of them are "Phillips", but others ("Posidriv" is very common nowadays, and blunter at the end than Phillips) have a different design of cross-head, designed to prevent the screwdriver "camming" out when the screw gets hard to turn. Using the wrong type of crosshead driver for the screw in question can mess up the screw-head, particularly if using a cordless driver or power drill to save strain on your wrist
it was his patent
