It possible to replace a standard(key operated) drill chuck with a keyless chuck?
Question:I have a Black & Decker drill with a standard(key operated)13mm chuck. The drill is a few years old now. Is it possible to replace the chuck with a keyless chuck. cheers,
Answers:
Yes its easy to do. You get the keyless chucks from B&Q. Suggest you remove your chuck first to get the spindle size. You remove the chuck buy closing it first. Then put chuck key in position on chuck and give a sharp smack with a hammer so that it trys to unscrew the whole chuck from the drill in a counter clockwise direction. It should loosen and then it can just be screwed off.
Yes, it is possible and not all that difficult. There is one screw holding you chuck in and the new chuck should include instructions on removing the old one and installing the new one.
yes you can
sure is get a new chuck and ondo the old one by undoing the screw down the hole(phillips) CLOCKWISE! then put the key in and smack it(the key) very hard in the fully open position
I would suggest that you keep your key operated chuck. The keyless chucks do not work as well. You cannot get the drill bits tight enough and they tend to slip. I have had to buy special drills with flats so that they do not slip; however, you cannot buy these special bits for the smaller sizes.
