length x width at 4 inches divide by 81 . So a 20ft by 30ft area is 600 square foot area divide 81 into that which is 7.4 yards.
Length x width x thickness. Four inches thick is .33, six inches is .5, etc, if your length and width are in feet. Then divide by 27. If it's one foot thick, divide sq feet by 27.
10' 6" x 12' 4" = 10.5 x 12.33 = 129.46 sq ft div by 27 =4.79 yds.
If your L and W are in inches, divide by 46656.
