How do I reglaze a window?

First advise... carefully! Obviously you'll have to remove the old glazing, but if you're not careful you'll crack the glass. I generally use a combination of tools to remove the old glazing. A sharp half-inch wood chisel works well, but don't get in a rush. And most importantly, don't pry against the glass. Only pry from the side of the frame material. If the glass is already cracked or broken, nothing beats a heat gun to soften the old glazing, it works great! Once your old glazing is removed you can use a putty knife and new glazing from a can. Just kneed & roll the glazing in your hands until it becomes plyable. Then pack a bit more than you'll need into the edges... don't worry about "pretty" yet. Once you have the entire perimeter packed with new glaze, hold your putty knife at about a 45 degree angle and drag it down along each edge. This will remove the excess & leave a nice finished product. Another great alternative is to buy a tube of glaze that you can apply with a caulking gun. It's quick, easy, and leaves a nice bead around the perimiter. You're done!

using a pick, remove the old glaze, using a putty knife replace with new glazing, purchased at the hardware store.
