How do you keep things from molding when kept in a cellar?

Question:Is there something to put down there so it smells better?

Answers:
A Dehumidfier would work.

Put a fresh cup of ammonia out every week. Works great and is cheap.
your moldy basement has moisture in it. Get rid of the moisture and you will get rid of the mold. Install a dehumidifier, if you can't stop the water from getting in. Bleach water or Oder Ban will get rid of the smell.
I had a musty basement for years and fought that mold for a long time.

Then I had a whole house Electrostatic Air Filter installed, a Carrier Electrostatic Air filter.

Gone is the mold and musty odor and not a sign of it around.

I know these things cost a bunch but they are cheaper than fighting mold and removing panels and that moldy smell that ruins your house.

The Electrostaic removes Mold, mildew, viruses, bacteria Pollen and most small particulates.

You can also buy at Lowes a 3 inch thick filter that does the same as an Electrostatic. Its a replaceable kind costing about $40 and last about a year. You will need to size up in square inches your current filter because this has a higher resistance to flow. Say you have like a 18 x 20, then youd need a say 20 x 30 or around that.
a dehumidifier.
