How can I unscrew a bolt and screw that my dad accidently tightened too much?
Question:For my pool ladder, my dad decided to tighten the screw too tightly. And we have to unscrew it so that we can properly set up the ladder. Is there any way to unscrew it (the bolt wont hold in place and plyers cant hold it in place as we untighten it).
My dad (not the brightest) thought we can use some high power magnet to hold it in place to unscrew. He's frustrated, and i really want to get into my pool, so if there is any suggestions?

Get someone to cut the nut off, this ain't gonna get done today. Is it made out of metal or plastic? If you cut around it and eliminate it can you drill another hole and put it together with a nut and bolt?? Then either take a metal file and file the edges where you cut of the portion you couldn't use or use duct tape. All else, go buy another ladder.
wrench
They sell bits at the hardware store for stripped screws.
Have you tried vice grips
If you have a hardware store nearby, go get a can of "Liquid Wrench." I don't know how it works, but it can loosen the most obstinant screws and pipes known to man!
try to losen it with wd-40 first, let it soak in. Than it should losen right up.Than from now on don't let your Dad tighten the bolts.lol
They used to make a product called, "Penetrating Oil" I don't know whether or not it is still available, but it was used for just this type of thing, You put it on, and left it for a while and when you tried to move the bolt, it came loose magically. Ask at the hardware store if they still have this.
What you need is called an "Ezy-Out". This is a tapered tool with a reverse helix. You need to get the correct size for the diameter of the screw, and drill a hole in the centre on the screw head to the right depth. Then you insert the ezy-out to hold the screw while yo uundo the nut.
Have a look at this site, it may help you.

Good luck with your projects.
try soaking it in liquid wrench
get a set of easy-outs and are you turning to your left ? while facing the bolt ?
Hardware stores sell retractor bits to get out messed up bolt heads. Also to hold the nut end there is all kind of pliers that can get in tight situations to hold whatever needs to be held. Good Luck.
