I need help with spray painting?
Question:im spray painting something plastic. gonna do it in glossy black using krylon fusion. what im wondering is what do use as a base coat? someone told me to use white paint as a base coat, someone said primer, metallic silver, and even flat black. but on the can, it says no primer is needed. im assuming that means a base coat all together.
i am trying to get a mirror finish and was wondering if anyone can tell me the proper way of getting at least a decent finish on my project.
also, i have krylon triple thick crystal clear glaze and rustoleum high luster lacquer. which is better for getting the look im after? can i use both? thanks for the help

depending on what the plastic substrate is. what i mean is, if its a chair or something that is going to be flexing, you will what to use a water based paint because, water base has flexabilty. if its an item that will not be flexing or in deriect sun lite, what i mean is expansion and contraction, you can use a high gloss oil base spray paint,( and these paints may not always need a primer coat, just several coats of the finish color)spraying from a can is tricky, when you start and finish keep the can away from the substrate ,then move closer, canda foward and back, also keep the can moveing . this is so you do not get any runs.
good luck. e mail me if you have any more ?

you use primer.. if you use other paints it will flake off and wont stick. and you can us lacquer but it has to mix with the paint compatable look a brand of the paint and see if it wonr react
plastic does not generally take paint well. I would rough it up with a 300 grit sandpaper. Put on a primer coat (or some other color) When it dries go over it with 600 grit sandpaper. Continue with primer coats until you are satisfied with smoothness. Then use your color of choice. The base will determine the result.
Just use the fusion paint for all your color, and when your done, you can put a clear gloss coat on. This will give you your mirror finish. You might want to rough it a little with a scotch bright pad before you start. Your first coat should be a very light dusting. Its better to have three or four lighter coats than a couple of thicker ones.
Good luck
