What's the best way to attach decorative fringe to my curtain?

Question:I have some nice but plain looking curtains that I'd like to spice up by attaching some decorative fringe to the ends. My question is should I sew or glue it on? I don't want it to look like I obviously did it myself so I want some advice on how to make the fringe look expertly attached. I'm worried about using glue because I don't want the globs of glue to show up as dark patchs under the band of the fringe. Thanks!

Hi,
I recommend sewing the fringe to the curtain. It will be faster, easier and you can hold the fringe in place with pins as you sew.

The problem with using glue that is strong enough the hold them together, is when it dries, it will be stiff and not look nice.

Hi Dot. Two ways you can add fringe.I take it you mean down the side of curtain. Or do you mean across the top? Doesn't matter. Sewing it on would be best of all.But can you launder curtain? And if so make sure you can launder fringe. A better way to do this is to use Velcrum. You can buy it either in a strip, which you would glue to curtain edge. Or nowadays you can get little spots of velcrum. You just glue spots where you want to add fringe, then glue other spot to fringe. This way you can remove fringe to clean, wash or change. Good Luck!
hot glue is cheap, fast and effective. Good luck
You can buy strips of iron-on webbing that has sticky on both sides. You just put it between the curtain and the fringe and iron it together. If you want to remove the fringe I believe you can just heat it with an iron again and peel it off.
Really if you want it done right and want it to last sewing the fringe on is best. If you ever have to clean the curtains it will fall apart if you use glue. I sew and if it were me I would not use glue for that job.
