Pour rubbing alcohol on some cotton & rub vigorously until the sticky marks are gone.
apply Go Gone. you can buy it from rite aid, walmart, walgreen.

Home centers sell stuff called adhesive remover but there are other things to try too, mineral spirits (paint thinner), xylene, lacquer thinner, Goo Gone, etc.
you dont say what its on be careful you dont take polish off if its furniture if not try nail varnish remover
The best way to remove any type of sticky residue is scrubbing with rubbing alcohol. It takes a bit of elbow grease but it works.
WD40 is great, its a spray lubricant or nail varnish remover is good too.

WD40 Fantastic stuff uses all round the shop! Just spray it on and leave for a bit then get a piece of card or dry cloth and lift the nasties off. Watch any fabric nearby as it is oil based and will leave greasy marks
If using white spirit break the surface with rigid plastic careful not to scratch and leave for a short while to let it soften adhesive,not too long or it will evaporate dont try to rub immediately after application..
Hairspray! Dont ask why but it does work.
The best I've found is "Sticky Stuff Remover" from the Betterware people. It really works!

I've had some success with Duraglit metal polish wadding. Some adhesives come off really easily with lighter fluid.
