I just fixed my toilet. What did do?
Question:First, allow to describe the problem.
My toilet had been making a noise as though it was constantly "running." You know, the streaming water sound you hear after you flush the toilet. So I went to flush my toilet and, alas, it wouldn't flush. When I removed the lid to the tank, I saw that there was hardly any water in it. Based on my very limited prior experience in working with toilets, I knew that it wouldn't flush properly unless the tank was full until the flush line.
Now, before recounting what I did to fix my toilet, let me describe its parts. On the left side of the tank there is a standard value and float apparatus. You know, the kind that are usually black and gray and that have a clip that you can pinch in order to adjust the height of the float. In the middle there is an apparatus that one might describe as a combo overflow tube/drain plug. That is, the part that plugs the drain at the bottom of the tank is attached to a hollow tube that goes around the overflow tube

First of all .... CONGRATULATIONS!!
Sometimes you just need to keep working and trial and error will lead you to the answer. Sadly though you just don't always know what you did right, except that you did fix it. My husband started repairing our basement toilet 2 months ago. He fixed the toilet, but then the pipe began leaking between the walls. To make a long story short, it still does not work and there is still no water to the sink. I'm just glad that this is not our main bathroom!
You did good work and next time you will know what to do if a repair is needed! Good for you!
You fixed it so who gives a crap...
Use it now!
Your a genius , jiggle the handle !!!
Not leaving the toilet without repairing
Doing it on your own, no repairmen

Keep practicing until you really figure out what you did - then write your book.
You re-seated the flapper. All these parts do have names, by the way.
After all that work you should sit down.
OK..GOOD JOB!....now..sit on it .and let yourself go down that apparatus ....Bon voyage!..
