Toilet Problems.?

Question:Ok, when I flush my toilet it keeps running after it should'nt. I have to jiggle the handle. I lifted the lid and the plastic lid that's connected to the chain doesn't go down. How do I fix this?

Answers:
Sounds like the flapper chain is getting caught. This could be from being too long or not centered over the flush valve. Make sure the chain is centered over the top of the flapper as much as possible. Your can do this by moving the chain to a different hole on the tip lever. The chain should have a slight slack in it but not enough to dangle around the flapper as it trys to close. It is all easy once you know how, If you have problems I advise to call a plumber, most will do this for the cost of the service unless the flapper is bad.

Lenghten the chain a little I have to lengthen in spring and shorten in fall
It could be that the part is worn out...Beleave it or not this part is called Ball & **** assembley...funny right...It is really an easy thing to replace...Go to Home Depot or Lowes to the Plumbing dept and tell them the problem and they will show you the part to get...then before you start turn the Supply line off...Flush the toilet by keeping the handle down...not all the water will come out so have a bucket and towels handy...disconnect the supply line hose under the toilet..then remove the locking nut, reove the old part and reverse the procedure.Good luck..
You don't you just let it flow. Ya Kno the mellowyellow idea.
I would buy the kit that has everything you need to replace all the parts, just in case the flapper does not do it, it will save you many trips back. Those parts wear fast, and after fixing mine every 6 months or so, I broke down and bought a brand new one.
wood42ras has the best answer but remember that it will involve removing the tank for the complete replacement.
take a look in there and see how things are arranged. Then go to your nearest hardware store or a place like Home Depot and ask the people working there.

Perhaps the "plastic lid" merely flipped over, stick your hand in there, turn the lid over and see if it works properly.

Usually when there's noise it means some part has worn out, but you'll have to determine what part you need, so describe it to the store sales people or ask a man in your life, your dad, your spouse, or a neighbor.
I deal with this everyday in my line of work. A running toilet is most likely caused by the Tank Flapper ( attached to the chain) not seating properly on the douglas valve( long plastic tube in the middle of the tank). The Flapper should just hook onto a couple notches on either side of the base were it is attached. It should only take 5 minutes to swap out.
The washer or seating has probably 'let go' so get a plumber or handyman to fix it for you. Have a good day.
