DIY hand held fans for my wedding?

Question:I am looking for ideas on the design, etc. on how to make handmade fans for my guests to use during my August wedding.

Answers:
You can get fancy paper from a paper supply store and use the Asian Origami form to fold and shape the paper to look like a fan. Or you can use a stiff paper source (like cardboard) from an office supply store to print a nice design and cut it uot in the shape of a fan. The glue or staple a big 'popsicle-type' stick to the middle of it. You can get he sticks at any craft store. This is to make the 'origami' type fans:

This is how to fold money but you can adjust this to use it on nice origami paper:

Start by folding about the width of the white border on one end of the bill.

Keep folding back and forth, with each fold the same width. Consistency really improves overall appearence.

Once you've finished the entire length of the bill, pinch one end and bend it over as shown. This will keep the 'handle' end closed quite nicely.

All that's left is to spread the folds out on one side. Just like ordinary paper fans, the outside edge is all curved over in one direction to give it a little stiffness.

I have no clue, but this sounds like a really good idea. I have never seen it done.
Great idea, and with all due respect an easier solution would be to purchase blanks, much like Asian style fans, but White or off white. They already are fabricated, and offer a generic fan.
Certainly if you wish you can spray paint them with a fabric spray to a desired color, or decorate them in any method that coordinates with the wedding.
Try Michaels, or JoAnn fabrics, even online.

I am not sure why you want to do this. I would think a crowd waving paper fans would be very distracting and take away from the dignity of the wedding.
Try orientaltrading.com for several fans already made that you can re-do to match your colors. Or you've seen the kind that are given out at sport events or concerts right? Semi square with rounded corners~~2 pcs basic card stock printed in your p/c printer with a fave poem or date of wedding or even wall paper cut and done the same way with an extra large tongue depressor sandwiched inside. You need it to be double sided for strength. hope this helps.
try garden ridge for fans
I recommend Party City or Oriental Trading Company for ideas. Each has huge selections for all occasions.
At my brother’s wedding they placed small electrical fans on each seat. These are nice in the way that they will not cause as much of a distraction as a bunch of people waving fans in their faces but are not very memorable. They also run about $1.25 each.

If you have a design you would like to share with your friends and loved ones in the form of an oriental style fan you may want to check with a local silk screener.

If you are working with a budget you might want to keep in mind that no matter how nice it is most people will probably throw it in the trash within 3 days of getting home.

Good luck and congratulations on you impending nuptials.
