Resourses to learn to sew and diy help!?
Question:A friend bought me a really really nice sewing machine for xmas and I can only basically sew by hand. He bought it because I love to craft but I feel bad because I haven't used it to show him that I appriciate (like showing stuff i've made) it was like 300 bucks too. I love dyi stuff and goth clothes but hard to find in my size, are there any resourses that i can learn to sew myself? Prefer people who have done it this way...can't afford a teacher and no friends know how!!

I am not sure where that you live but you might contact a local sewing machine shop and they might be able to tell you if there is a class for beginners locally. Also I don't know how old you are but maybe 4-H is offered in your area . They have begining classes in sewing . Or maybe the local Home Extension could hook you up with someone who could help. If you are not having any luck this way go to the local sewing --fabric shop and get a simple pattern and a enough material to make maybe adecorative pillow, elastic waisted skirt something real easy and follow the pattern it will walk you thru the steps to complete the project. I wish you best of luck
Go find some goth patterns that say EASY on them, or look on the back of the pattern and make sure it only has a few pieces. Instructions for cutting and sewing are in the pattern. If you need help or have questions, the ladies that work in the fabric stores usually love to give advice and share their know-how. The best way to learn is by just trying it out. Make sure the first time, you get cheaper fabric because it will be more "experimental." As you gain experience, you can buy better fabric and more involved patterns.
Check your local fabric store for classes. Or, check into community adult education.
Practice on simple things with straight lines like curtains and tablecloths or small quilt projects before progressing to clothing, which will have curves and more complicated details.
Have fun and good luck!
