Granite remants? Expensive? Hard to install?
Question:Have a desk nice and sturdy table i that want to convert to kitchen island.Put casters on legs and place granite on top can i apply directly to the wood surface and with what.
Answers:
I used the granite cutout from my sink and cooktop to do exactly that. I used Locktite to adhere the granite to the existing top. The fabricator wanted too much to do the edges, so I found a tile edging piece made out of marble, glued it to the raw edge and then filled in the gap with resin. My granite was absolute black and the tile edging is ebony marble, but the two look wonderful together and it is a finished look that won't snag clothing with the raw, honed granite edge.
Yes, a few dabs of silicone is all you need to attach.
yes you simply can make this happen,,,but you need to make sure you have a steady balanced table top.granite is really HEAVY...and a flimsy table wont do.you can glue the granite straight onto a plywood but the granite should be BULLNOSED (the ends rounded off) and perfesionally inspected for maximum realiabliity and pertection..if you need more info or help just email me.
You can use mastic a ceramic tile adhesive and use a non sanded grout.I'm getting ready to make a kitchen table out of remnants I found a really nice oak base and will be using plywood and backer board for the surfice to apply the granite.A good way to find remnants might be to ask at local installers showroom.I got my remnants through working in the trade.Remember if you use mastic to let it dry out for three or four days after you apply the granite before you grout or the water from the grout will make the mastic turn to mush and everything will move.Good luck
