How do I get oil based stains out of brick?
Question:I did a home remedy of veg oil and garlic to get rid of bugs around my brick house and have spots of oil all over. We tried pressure washing, scrubbing with salt and soap solutions and just scrubbing with wire brush. Any ideas?
Answers:
have u tried steam? it might take a couple times, and blot after it is wet n hot to remove the oil.
you can paint the brick your favorite color. mine are pink you can use a matched color possibly good luck
At the hardware store get a pound or what you need of
T.S.P. ( Try Sodium Phosphate ) Mix one or two cups
to two gallons of watter. Use a large cheep paint brush
and apply a few times. This will not damage paint or the
bricks. If you have a skeined place on your hands it will
burn. T.S.P. is the base for washing powders. This will
get some of the oil if not all. Try it and good luck.
The brick absorbed some of the oil leaving a stain. To get the oil out may require etching the brick with an acid wash. The acid removes a layer of the brick and the stain will go with it.
Acid washing brick is a common practice when a brick mason needs a "cleaner look" finish. The acid is diluted with water to be safe to work with, and it works fast and easy.
Anywhere they sell brick, you can also find out about acid washing.
